This is a tracking bug that replaces bugs 15741, 15248,
15225, 14557, 14483 and 14394. This bug targets the 4.2.0
branch. There is a separate bug for fixing these issues in
HEAD.

The current 4.2.0 doesn't build successfully with --with-
apxs on Mac OS X. There are issues with header checks,
libtool, linker invocation, et cetera. Additionally,
runtime loading of PHP extensions (with dl()) is not
supported.

These issues are considered CRITICAL. For 4.2.0, they can
be fixed with interim solutions, like forcing flat
namespace or altering the libtool we ship with. Longer-term
fixes should be incorporated for HEAD.

See the comments for the superceded bugs for more details.

We've given up on this. OS X support will appear in 4.3.0,
not in the 4.2 branch which this tracking bug was for.
