At the time of this writing PHP uses .gitattributes and ident attribute (Git functionality) to provide revision versions on some files that use this. The Git's ident attribute replaces all $Id$ occurrences in source files with the hexadecimal blob object names based on those source code files. The Exif source code files have built in revision version that probably would be good to replace with the dynamic one from the Git at the time of the built.
